So I finally changed my fail of a profile page...To a snazzy, sarcastic, disclaimer page! Shhh it makes me laugh...

Right so all over the news and daytime TV today all I've heard is about this proposal to end alcohol advertising because it's causing young people to binge drink.

FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Well according to the EU I'm still a young person until I turn 25 so here's my young person's view:

Other countries have drink advertising but don't have the same problems as ours, why is that?

Well looking into it, it seems to me that it's down to our attitude to alcohol. See in this country we're taught from an early age that alcohol is bad and will kill you. All through school you get "Alcohol poisons your liver" and photos of gross livers etc etc etc in a shock tactic attempt to get us to steer clear.
My opinion?
Wrong message.
See I know from personal experience (and there've been a whole bunch of studies that back me up on this), when I was younger if someone told me not to do something I'd go ahead and do it, I think the only time the "AVOID OR YOU WILL DIE!" Approach has ever worked on me was when I was really little and had the whole "DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS!" thing.
Personally I think you can show people as many rotting livers as you want but the message isn't going to get through unless it happens to them or someone they know.
In other countries you're taught to respect alcohol from an early age, in France children drink watered down wine with meals.
So then alcohol becomes less of a big deal, and not really something you can use as a tool of rebellion, meaning less rotting livers (ok doesn't always work, but you can't win 'em all).
So in my opinion if young people were taught that alcohol is ok as long as you're responsible with it, there'd be less problems, I think that would work with a lot of things really that are deemed as young people problems.
Also if they band alcohol advertising, then football will implode, how many teams and competitions are now sponsored by drinks?
